CEFGA Skills USA

In March (21-22) Harrison Contracting Company attended the CEFGA Skills USA Career Expo (we posted it here). During that event, we connected with a school teacher from Upson-Lee High School named Ben Lowe.  We talked with him and learned that one of his high school kids (Austin Pitts) actually won the Skills USA state competition and would be going to compete at Skills USA nationals.  During the discussion with Ben, he shared that they had raised some money for the trip but were still fundraising for the remaining $500-$600. It didn’t take Calvin Pate and Sean Gillespie long to offer that Harrison Contracting Co. would donate $700 toward the trip including a Harrison logo cooler and some additional supplies/goodies. The money will go toward helping offset the cost for Austin Pitts to compete in the Skills USA nationals competition. Read more about the Skills USA competition here (https://www.skillsusa.org/competitions/skillsusa-championships/).

Additionally, some of the photos below are of a “tiny house” project that Mr. Lowe and his construction class have undertaken. The school will be selling the tiny house at the end of the year to raise additional funds for the construction department. Plus, they are also trying to raise additional funds for a trailer to transport the tiny house. See more photos of this tiny house project here.  You can help Ben Lowe’s fundraising efforts if you are interested in supporting his worthwhile projects, you can contact him through his Instagram account or the schools Facebook Page.

HCC Employee Goes the Extra Mile

Harrison Contracting Company has a lot of excellent employees and many of them have been with us for years. Alfredo Estrada is one of those people that delivers on his job commitments regardless of what is going on in his personal life.

Recently, Alfredo received glowing kudos for a job he did at Palm Harbor Recreational Center in Palm Harbor, FL.  It was an exterior repaint and during that job he had to drive back and forth between the hospital where his first child was being born, and and the jobsite in Palm Harbor directing his crew.

According to our customer, Alfredo did an awesome job. He has over 10 years of painting experience and has been with Harrison Contracting for 3 of those years as a foreman.

The photo at right shows Alfredo in his HCC uniform, along with his wife Kristin and son Maurcio

Harris County High School Wins Free Paint & Pizza Education Day Party

HARRISON CONTRACTING COMPANY – VILLA RICA, GEORGIA

Harris County High School
Recently, Harrison Contracting Company had the opportunity to serve a group of high school students at Harris County High School located in Hamilton, GA.  Earlier this year, at the 2018 CEFGA Skills USA Expo (Construction Education Foundation of Georgia), Harrison Contracting held a drawing for a free Paint & Pizza education day party including a free hand-held wireless Graco paint sprayer for their school to keep.

James Steele’s class at Harris County HS were the winners of the party and on September 21, 2018, Calvin Pate – VP, Eugene Dent – Project Manager, and Cliff Warnock – Field Superintendent of Harrison Contracting Company showed up at Mr. Steele’s class on the Tiger campus to talk about the paint contracting industry.  With more than 60 years of collective experience in the painting and construction industry, Pate, Dent, and Warnock helped the students understand career opportunities that exist in paint contracting.

Additionally, the Harrison team led hands-on painting of a small building on campus with the black and gold school team colors just in time for their Homecoming event the same evening. The sprayer was left with Mr. Steele for additional hands-on education with future students. Special thanks to Harrison Contracting partner, Sherwin Williams, for donating the Graco handheld sprayer.  Harrison Contracting is proud to be a part of continuing education in the paint contracting industry and helping today’s youth become tomorrow’s leaders! Go Tigers!

Young Leadership Program Golf Classic

This is an event that HCC sponsors and participate in every year; we have players golfing and we also have a benefit tent. This year at our tent we played 'Drink-Hole' for $5 each to raise additional money for the YLP. We ended up raising almost $500 and everyone had a BLAST! Not to brag, but we think that we had THE MOST POPULAR tent on both courses!

AGC Georgia's Young Leadership Program hit a hole in one and Harrison Contracting was pleased to have been part of this worthy event!  The 2018 YLP Golf Classic netted more than $84,000. All funds will be deposited into the YLP Charitable Works Fund within the AGC Georgia Foundation.

HCC is in Tampa Florida

Tampa or “Cigar City” is famous for a number of things, not the least of which is its geographic proximity to some of the fastest growing metropolitan areas in the US. Its temperate climate and world renowned beaches have made it a mecca for tourists, native Floridians, transplants, and businesses alike. Of the 20 fastest growing areas in terms of new jobs, commerce and industry… 5 of them are within a 2.5 hour drive from the Tampa Metro area, and the 6th (Panama City, FL - #19 on the list) just happens to be serviced by HCC’s Destin Division, making Harrison uniquely situated to capitalize on the booming growth being experienced in various parts of the Sunshine State.

Harrison Contracting opened its Tampa Division in September of 2015 with an eye towards doing just this, while continuing to strengthen current partnerships with long time customers, as well as build new ones with the next generation of the Harrison family of clients.

Harrison Contracting Company Tampa Office

A full 1/3 of Florida’s population resides within a 2 hour drive from the Tampa metro area, and combined with neighboring Pinellas County, (which is home to the cities of Clearwater & St. Petersburg) Tampa is quickly becoming a force to reckon with nationally in terms of development, employment, commerce, and overall GDP. This as Florida has knocked New York out of the #3 spot nationally as the 3rd most populous state in the US.

Tampa is also home to the largest Port (by tonnage) in the State of Florida, (the 11th largest in the nation), and has seen a significant increase in new businesses of all types, including construction and development. In addition, Tampa International Airport has been recognized as the 3rd best/most efficient airport in the US, and it ranks 5th in the world based on consumer and Airport Industry surveys and accolades.

Combined with its proximity to Orlando, (the home of Walt Disney World Florida as well as a multitude of both national and international companies) Harrison’s Tampa Division will be uniquely suited to build on its already considerable reputation for providing nationally renowned commercial painting and facility maintenance services for Property Management Firms, General Contractors and New Construction, Industrial Facilities, National Accounts and Direct to Owner projects all over the State.

We are proud to be starting this new chapter in our company’s story, and to continue cultivating the same culture of quality, customer service, value and subsequent success we have enjoyed over the last 21+ years.

Facility Maintenance – Painting Project

Pier Park Shopping Center Painting Project

The Pier Park Shopping Center in Panama City Beach FL asked Harrison Contracting Company to perform an  exterior repaint of their retail facility.  Owned and managed by Simon Properties, one of the nation's leading retail center management firms, Simon is a global leader in retail real estate ownership, management and development and a S&P 100 company (Simon Property Group, NYSE: SPG).

The video at right shows how large this facility is and all the colors required for this unique project.
